Why EnergyCo May Acquire Your Land

EnergyCo is delivering major renewable energy projects across NSW. To connect these projects to the electricity grid, EnergyCo may need to build transmission lines, substations, or energy hubs.

To complete this work, EnergyCo can acquire private land under the Land Acquisition (Just Terms Compensation) Act 1991.

Compulsory Acquisition FAQs

Why is EnergyCo acquiring my land?

EnergyCo is acquiring land to build powerlines, substations, and other infrastructure for NSW renewable energy projects.

The process takes 6-12 months. Disputes over compensation or valuation can extend the timeline.

EnergyCo will try to agree with you first. If that fails, the NSW Valuer General will determine your compensation under the Just Terms Act. When engaging Hones Lawyers, we will guide you through each step of this process.

A notice of acquisition formally notifies you that your land is being acquired. Contact the Hones Lawyers team as soon as a notice of acquisition is received.
