About Peter Clarke

Peter is a former NSW Young Lawyer of the Year and is an alumni of Sydney University’s Master of Environmental Law course. Peter has over a decade of experience in both obtaining approvals for and seeking judicial review of major resource projects, commercial/industrial development and residential development of all sizes.

Initially involved in public interest environmental law with a particular focus on ecologically sustainable development, judicial review and community awareness and engagement, Peter transitioned into the private sector in 2016 with a specific interest in challenges to conditions of consent by developers and objectors alike. He has previously advised some of Australia’s largest property developers, primary industrial clients and resource companies on contaminated land issues, development restrictions, yields and uplifts, as well as regulatory risks for a range of residential, commercial and industrial projects.

Peter also specialises in easement negotiations and disputes, whether for drainage infrastructure, rights of carriageway or more esoteric grants. Peter appears frequently in both the Land and Environment Court and the Supreme Court appearing in tree disputes, development application and development control order appeals, civil enforcement and judicial review, and easement creation and characterisation litigation.

Formerly a snowboarding instructor working all over the world, these days Peter can usually be found on a bush trail somewhere on Sydney’s northern beaches or north shore in his spare time – usually trying to convince himself that powerwalking up hills still counts as running…
